1. Historical Background

1.1 History behind It's name:

Let me share a cool historical nugget with you! Back in 1900, a group of tough soldiers, known as “Sangar” set up camp in what is now the Bikaner region.

They were on a mission to keep the northern borders safe and sound. Fast forward a bit, and that spot transformed into a buzzing city, rocking the name Sangaria.

Cool, right?

History’s got some fascinating tales!

1.2 Detailed History of Sangria:

Let me take you back to a time before 1900 when the brave soldiers of the princely state of Bikaner stood guard at what is now Sangria town.

They called the place ‘sangar,’ and that’s how the town got it’s name. Fast forward to 1901-02, when the Bikaner state railway stretched it’s tracks from Hanumangarh to Bhatinda.

Funny thing, before folks settled here, the railway station was named “Chautala Road” after a village in Punjab (now Haryana), just 6 km away.

As life started buzzing, Sangariya town took shape. In the early 20th century, the State Government gave the green light for an agricultural mandi.

Picture this: back then, the area was pretty much a blank canvas, no drinking water in sight. They had to bring water in by train from Hanumangarh town and distribute it to every home.

Talk about the journey from barren lands to a vibrant town!🌆

11. Landmarks and Historical Sites

11.1 Shahid Smarak Sangariya:

This memorial was built by the residents of Sangariya in memory of the martyrs who were shot during the farmers’ movement on 7 January 1970 in Sangariya and Bhadra. Its foundation stone was laid by Union Home Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh on 17 December 1977.

11.2 Gramotthan Vidyapeeth Sangariya:

On August 9, 1917, Chaudhary Bahadur Singh Bhobia, a retired Subedar of Bidangkheda village, started “Jat Anglo Indian School” to promote education in rural areas.

Swami Kesavananda was made the director of the Jat school Sangriya in 1932, which was very close to closure due to lack of funds.

He went from village to village and to the Seths of the desert area, who were in Calcutta and far away places and collected money. He was fortunate enough to be instrumental in starting hundreds of schools in the desert area.

Then in 1948, the name of Jat School Sangaria was changed to Gramottan Vidyapeeth, Sangaria. Swami Kesavananda was associated with Gramottan Vidyapeeth, Sangaria (Rajasthan) (1932-1952). He developed a very beautiful museum here with a collection of rare documents, antiques, paintings etc. brought from various places.

With the help of the people and students of the institute, tree plantation was also done on a large scale in this dry area.

At that time and even today Gramottahan Vidyapeeth, Sangriya remains a center of inspiration for the educationists of the country and abroad.
